Basic Spanish

If you are heading to South or Central America here are some basic Spanish phrases and words that may come in handy. It is good to bring along a language phrasebook and dictionary along in our trip. We can find them at many airport bookstores and they come in convenient booklets. Alternatively there are language apps that we can download them to our electronic devices. Or we can simply use Google or Bing translator. I find language app, Duolingo very useful. It is well structured learning app and best of all, its free! It is more fun and meaningful if we can speak the language of the places we are visiting.

Where can I find a bathroom, please? = ¿Dónde puedo encontrar un baño, por favor?

I need two tickets, please. = Necesito dos boletos, por favor.

That is expensive. = Es caro.

Do you have something smaller, please? =¿Tiene usted algo más pequeño, por favor?

Can we walk? Can we take a bus? = ¿Podemos caminar? ¿Podemos tomar un autobús?

Where is the hotel? = ¿Dónde está el hotel?

What is the address? = ¿Cuál es la dirección?

Do you know the address? = ¿Sabes la dirección?

Here is the address = Aquí está la dirección

It is is not far from here. Only 10 minutes walk. = Es no está lejos de aquí. A sólo 10 minutos a pie.

It is over there, just across the street = Es allí, al otro lado de la calle

This is a nice hotel = Este es un buen hotel.

I have a reservation = Tengo una reserva

Does the hotel has a swimming pool / gym? = ¿El hotel tiene una piscina / un gimnasio?

Is there air-conditioner / heater in the room? = ¿Hay aire acondicionado / calefacción en la habitación?

Do you have hot shower? = ¿Tiene ducha caliente?

I am hungry. Is breakfast bar open? = Tengo hambre. ¿Está abierta la barra de desayuno?

Can I have cereals, bread and scrambled eggs? = ¿Puedo tener cereales, pan y huevos revueltos?

Can I have more bread, please? And some butter/ jam = ¿Puedo tener más pan, por favor? Y un poco de mantequilla / mermelada

Lets go for lunch/ dinner/ supper = Vamos a ir para el almuerzo / cena / cena

I only want soup with some bread, please = Sólo quiero sopa con un poco de pan, por favor

More bread, please = Más pan, por favor

Do you have salt/ pepper? = ¿Tiene sal / pimienta?

The food is delicious. What is this? = La comida es deliciosa. ¿Qué es esto?

What drinks do you like to have? = ¿Qué bebidas te gustaría tener?

Can I have coffee /tea with/ without milk? And no sugar, please = ¿Puedo tomar un café / té con/ sin leche? Y sin azúcar, por favor.

I would like to have a bottle of mineral water please = Me gustaría tener una botella de agua mineral por favor

Do you have orange/ apple/ juice? = ¿Tiene el jugo de naranja/ manzana?

Can I have one more, please? = ¿Puedo tener yo más, por favor?
